Shakespeare Republic is coming to you live on stage in 2016!
In 2016, the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the award-winning web series, Shakespeare Republic is stepping off the screen and onto the live stage to launch our inaugural theatre performance of the work, titled: Shakespeare Republic: Love The Bard, as well as bringing you Season Two of the webseries!
Featuring our original cast: Michala Banas (Upper Middle Bogan), Alan Fletcher (Neighbours), Rowena Hutson (“Most Outstanding Comedy Show”, Melbourne Fringe Festival), Sally McLean (Utopia), Billy Smedley (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) and Ben Steel (Winners & Losers), with new cast members Shane Savage (Chris & Josh), Dean Haglund (The X-Files), Christopher Kirby (Iron Sky) and Wahibe Moussa (Kick!) and focusing on our usual brief of bringing Shakespeare in innovative ways to a modern Aussie audience, we are excited to bring you Shakespeare as he intended – in front of a live crowd.
But to achieve all that we've planned for this year, we need your help. We're currently crowdfunding via the Australia Cultural Fund, accepting fully tax deductible donations from the general public to enable us to get the Shakespeare Republic show on the road this big Shakespeare anniversary year!

ABOUT OUR CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN
What it means to be selected for Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program
MATCH provides dollar-for-dollar matched funding from the Ministry for the Arts (Federal Government of Australia) for crowdfunding campaigns by independent artists and groups. Managed and supported by Creative Partnerships Australia, independent artists are offered the chance to apply for the competitive MATCH funding program each year and must meet a strict criteria to be granted MATCH status, which includes a proven track record in arts project delivery. Of the hundreds of projects that applied in 2016 - only 43 artists were approved for the MATCH program - including Shakespeare Republic.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
What this means is that thanks to Creative Partnerships Australia’s MATCH program, every dollar you give to this campaign via the Australia Cultural Fund (who are facilitating our donations) will be matched dollar for dollar, provided we reach our campaign target of $3,000.
WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT?
Apart from a warm fuzzy feeling in knowing you're supporting the Arts and independent Australian artists, every donation you make of $2 or more is tax deductible! You'll also get a public thank you on our official Honour Roll, here on the site once the campaign has concluded and know you're doing your bit to help us keep the spirit of the Bard and his words alive.

THE HOWS AND WHYS
What we're up to in 2016 and why we need your help
How will we do this?
So how do we take a series of vignettes from the screen and turn that into a live show? Keeping the initial concept of the work, the ensemble will perform a new set of monologues and scenes live and in person, as installation pieces in an iconic Melbourne location, also incorporating video projections of additional works and a soundscape. The audience will move, promenade-style, “discovering” each actor in performance – much like you peruse art in a gallery, only this art moves and interacts!
What do we need from you?
As with all independent creatives, funding is our biggest hurdle. And now that the work has expanded, we have additional costs to cover to bring the work to life in this way. We have applied for funds elsewhere, as well as investing our own cash, but we need that little bit more to fully realise this project in all its planned glory. That's why we are now embarking on a Crowdfunding Campaign until May 20th to raise the extra funds required.
What will the money be spent on?
The additional funds raised will cover equipment, venue hire and other production costs to help us create a truly immersive Shakespeare experience that explores not just the text in a modern context, but also connects the history of the work from its roots in 16th Century England to now. (And coffee. If we're honest with you, we have to admit some of the cash could be spent on coffee to keep us alert and awake during this crazy venture).
Where can I get tickets for this show?
We will be publishing ticket booking information closer to the performance dates and after the fundraising campaign is finished. As we are intending to perform the work in a non-traditional theatre space, it is likely that tickets will be sold via Eventbrite or a similar ticketing service, which takes credit card and PayPal payments, as well as selling tickets at the door on the day.
When is the live show happening?
At this stage, the live show is scheduled to take place in August 2016, but this is dependent on us reaching our funding goals and cast and crew availability. Sign up for our newsletter to keep in the loop, or keep an eye on our blog on this site for all the latest information.
Anything else I need to know?
We have big plans for this year's Shakespeare Republic, and the live show is just one element. Also, we will be adding new cast to the line-up and will make announcements as people confirm. More details will also be released about the live show as things progress. Stay tuned for all the info!
